We are pleased to announce that Emily Isaac (C’21) has been awarded the 2020 Lester Scholarship. Emily has demonstrated a deep and abiding interest in environmental sciences, along with an outstanding academic record, and we are proud to recognize her as the Lester Scholarship recipient of 2020.
As a new student at Emory, Emily did not hesitate to jump into the ENVS major. She headed off to the Bahamas in Professor Martin’s field course as a second semester freshmen (the youngest student on the trip!) and has expanded her field experiences from educational gardens in Atlanta to study abroad in Copenhagen. Her semester in Copenhagen was regrettably cut short by the pandemic, but she is grateful for the opportunity to study sustainable food and climate change solutions while there AND meeting up with some great ENVS friends:
As part of her Emory journey, Emily is keenly aware that the opportunity to combine seemingly disparate interests as an undergraduate student is an essential part of the experience. Engaging the artist in her through the Emory theater program has been as fundamental to her experience as her work in environmental science. For Emily,
“Theater has given me an outlet to process the overwhelming emotions that sometimes come with studying the environment and anthropogenic impacts on it. It has also provided me with the creative skills to communicate those feelings to others.”
Emily is looking forward to her senior year and expanding her experience in sustainable farming across the globe. Please join us in congratulating Emily on this well deserved award!
